    My Testimony

    by Karla Marie Lawrence Casper-Jennings

Mormon Church MissionaryI have a testimony.
It is sacred and dear to me.
    It comes from Heavenly Father.
    He gave it to me.

    My heritage was Mormon.
    My father’s faithful kin
    Were pioneers in the faith.
    My mother, entered in.

    She was a Southern Baptist.
    It was in her ways.
    Although a gentle Mormon
    It stayed throughout her days.

My father was a gentle man.
    He volunteered to walk.
    Relay life for cancer.

    He lived his humble talk.

    King Benjamin said it truly.
    Service to fellow man
    Serves our God most nobly.
    My father showed he can.

    I was an active member
    early in my youth.
    I had a good foundation.
    There I learned the truth.

    When I met my lover.
    A gentle, noble man.
    I followed in his footsteps,
    And joined the Methodist clan.

    I raised two lovely daughters
    But not within the church.
They are trying to follow Him.
For all that it is worth.

    I never lost the feeling
    Although I drifted away.
I kept pondering with the Savior
    Every time I prayed.

When I lost Bob to cancer
    And became a widowed mom.
I returned home to my roots.
    Like I had never gone.

    I married my home teacher.
    Who visited my parents home.
I’d prayed to be led in His light
    And not be left alone.

    He set a good example
    of service in the church
    His strength boosted my understanding
    I felt the gospel’s worth.

    Endowed in the temple,
    That Holy House of Prayer.
    I felt again welcomed home
I felt that I was there.

    My testimony is my comfort
    It grows some every day
When I give service to others.
    His is the only way.

So if I need some growing
    To state, “This I know!”
My priceless pearls come from Him.
I’m glad he sees me grow.

This testimony was born by me, but penned by my loving husband, Val John Jennings, who strengthens my testimony regularly .
